Open-air markets: a regular event not to be missed

The smells, the colors, the relaxed atmosphere —the market is most often synonymous with a good time. In a country where the coffee break is called fika, with conviviality and sharing over a hot drink and a cinnamon bun as the watchwords, markets have a very special appeal. Grab your basket and explore some of Stockholm's best spots :

  • The Old Heymarket, in the central Norrmalm district, takes place every week in the charming little square of Hötorget. Not very large, it offers all sorts of products as well as culinary specialties to try.
  • The Östermalm farmers' market, a gathering of producers in spring and autumn on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Here, only quality, fresh and local products in the form of jams, honeys, vegetables, fish, meats and oils.
  • Bondens Egen, open between October and December in Södermalm, is unique in offering products made within 250 km of Stockholm, a guarantee of quality and short supply chains. Every Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm, you can find a variety of vegetables, including giant pickles beloved by Swedes, corn on the cob, meat, and fish.
  • The Hornstull market takes place every weekend from April to September in Söderman, bringing together antique dealers, food trucks, music, games, and a great atmosphere. Spend some time at this lively meeting place.
