Great service and good location. Rooms in need of surface renovation.

The highlight is the variety of breakfast options. Otherwise, very good value for money.

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. For context, I am a top-tier member with IHG, Hilton Honors, and a Nordic Platinum member. I mention this not to boast, but to provide perspective—I stay in a great many hotels, and this one left me asking why? Many reviews highlight the central location, which is indeed excellent—but that is already known at the time of booking. What truly matters in a hotel are the elements beyond location: comfort, service, and the overall experience. On service, they do well—staff are warm, welcoming, and professional. However, the issues begin with the rooms. Despite being allocated a “deluxe” room—also marketed as suitable for families—I found it surprisingly small. For the price point, it feels difficult to justify. The room itself was cold in atmosphere, somewhat dark, and furnished uncomfortably. More concerning was the lack of cleanliness and consistency. The floor felt gritty underfoot, and on one day the room was not serviced at all—no bed made, no towels replaced—requiring a call to reception that evening. Soundproofing, which is supposedly a feature of these rooms, was disappointing. One night in particular was among the worst I’ve had in years, with doors slamming in the neighbouring room causing the walls to shudder throughout the night. Being located near the lift foyer did not help, as conversations and noise from guests waiting for lifts carried directly into the room. Ultimately, a hotel is about the quality of the room, the bed, and a good night’s sleep—and on this, the hotel falls short. On a more positive note, we dined at the restaurant, Hearts, where both the food and service were very good. Breakfast offered a reasonable selection, though nothing particularly memorable. There was a wide range of cheeses, meats, sausages, bacon, and scrambled eggs, along with juices such as tomato and berry, though I did not notice any orange juice. The absence of an egg station was also disappointing, as I would have preferred something like poached eggs. Another point worth noting is the insistence on full prepayment, even at a high loyalty tier level, which feels at odds with the expectations of frequent travellers. In summary, if you are happy to pay a premium for a central location and don’t mind compact rooms with a somewhat “high-end backpacker” feel, this hotel may suit you. However, if you value space, comfort, consistency, and above all a quiet night’s sleep, you may wish to look elsewhere—as I will on my next stay.
